The Valentine Theatre is a 108-year-old 901-seat facility operated by the Toledo Cultural Arts Center, Inc. After a 21-year effort by the Board of Trustees and the community, the $28 million renovation was unveiled on October 9, 1999. Since the Gala re-opening, more than 400,000 people have attended 400 international, national and area presentations. The theater has different rooms for any gathering.
This new addition to the Valentine extends the building west toward Superior Street where a landscaped plaza contains an automobile drop-off amid our sculptured garden. Attached to the main entrance, the Grand Lobby features a glass wall several stories tall with spectacular urban vistas both inside and outside. This dramatic room is a memorable space for large-scale events of all types. The lobby can seat 250 for dinner and fit 450 for a reception.
Contiguous to the Grand Lobby, the Founders Room is an intimate, handsomely appointed private area. Dinner seating for 50 is available with room for 60 for a reception. Ideal for small gatherings and V.I.P. receptions, it features a full bar and historic artifacts from the theatre’s storied past.
Accessible from the performers’ elevator, The Overlook is a unique location that contains a sweeping view of the Grand Lobby, the Valentine Plaza and the adjacent cityscape. Ideal for any gathering it can accommodate dinner seating for 80 and 120 reception.
The concourse many Toledoans remember from the movie palace era, the Historic Lobby is the one area that retains major Victorian features not destroyed during previous reconstructions. Victorian details include parts of the original mosaic floor, columns and cornice applications. The defining element in the Historic Lobby is the Victorian double grand staircase with its marble landing, walnut handrail, wrought iron balustrades and the intricately coffered ceiling at the top of the stairs. The concourse has dinner seating for 150 and can accommodate 250 people for a reception.
